Ask a Roofer – Golden Tip #5

September 24th, 2012

In case this is your first visit to our blog we’re currently posting a number of questions that homeowners or business owners should be asking a roofing contractor before hiring them. Often these are questions that may not be obvious simply because a roof is something that few people spend a great deal of time thinking about – unless you’re us, of course 🙂

Today’s question is a little more obvious but it has to be covered:

Ask for (and CHECK) References

Any good company that has been in business for any length of time will have a decent list of references that will vouch for the services they provide.  Make sure you ask for references related to jobs similar to the roofing work you are looking to have done.  These may not always be readily accessible but some roofing companies specialize in different types of roofing work. If they’ve done work similar to your project there is less chance that things will go wrong.

The second part of this tip is even more important.  Be sure to follow-up with each reference. It is one thing to ask for and receive a reference but it is another to verify that the reference is valid. When you speak with each reference don’t be shy. Ask them the tough questions and make sure you’re comfortable with the answers.
